Alberta Blue Cross® is proud to be the sole sponsor of Alberta Lung’s Breathe Smart! Education Program since 2019. This program delivers lung-health workshops at schools across Alberta. These workshops educate students on the most important and relevant lung diseases as well as the impact poor lung practice has on their health. This school program focuses on e-cigarettes and vaping, which is a growing and concerning trend among youth.
The overall goal of the program is to educate students about lung health and the dangers of it. Research indicates that the more contact we have, the greater the impact this program will have. The goals of the program are:
- educate, inform and empower students about E-cigarettes and vaping;
- disease awareness;
- reduce stigma;
- encourage healthier respiratory lifestyles through education; and
- build a greater “breathing” community.
