For almost 20 years, Alberta Blue Cross® has supported STARS—an essential emergency service in Western Canada. STARS provides critical care and transport to countless patients and has flown more than 45,000 missions since its inception in 1985.
On a typical day, STARS helicopters in Alberta fly about five times from their three bases in Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie. Half of the requests are usually for traumatic incidents, while the other half are flights to rural hospitals to provide patient transport to larger hospitals.
