COVID Community Roots Program
The purpose of the COVID Community Roots Program was to provide support for populations made most vulnerable by the COVID-19 crisis. Through grants up to a maximum of $3,000, Alberta Blue Cross®, Alberta Recreation and Parks Association and Communities ChooseWell partnered to support the social, mental, emotional and physical well-being of populations in rural, remote and secondary communities across Alberta.

The Alberta Blue Cross® COVID Community Roots Program is now closed. Thank you to everyone who applied for our grant in an effort to help your community navigate a difficult time. We are proud to have supported many passionate communities over the last three years.

Who was eligible?
Eligible organizations
This grant was specifically for communities outside Edmonton and Calgary, to support grassroots initiatives. Grassroots initiatives are created for the community, by community members, and seek additional support.
Eligible organizations included the following:
- Non-profit organizations
- Charities
- Municipalities
- First Nations communities or Métis Settlements
Eligible initiatives
Eligible initiatives addressed the mental, physical, social or emotional issues that COVID-19 has created in the lives of their community.
Services aligned with one of the following funding priorities:
- Helping people maintain independence, build resiliency and strengthen their ability to maintain healthy habits.
- Providing alternative support to help sustain connection and active living for members in the community, such as online supports.
- Supporting organizations to deliver projects for Albertans who are in need.
- Coordinating services and programs to address the well-being of Albertans.
